A MESSAGE TO PARENTS… from Pastor Steve Kidder

Parental involvement

Christ the King is here to help parents fulfill the promises made at their child's Baptism.  But parental involvement is vital.  Research shows that parents are the number one influence in the shaping of beliefs and values in youth today.

Remember your child’s baptism

What kind of a day was it?  What time of year?  What was the weather like?  Who came?  Did your child cry?  How old was he or she?  What hopes and dreams did you hold for your child as you watched the pastor sprinkle water over the top of his or her head?

Remember your baptismal promises

At that baptism you made some promises:

bulletTo bring you child to worship regularly
bulletTo teach your child the LORD’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments
bulletTo give your child a Bible
bulletAnd instruct your child in the Christian faith

Remember the reason for keeping these promises

…so that your child lives in the covenant of his or her baptism… so that he or she might lead a life that is fulfilling and pleasing to God.

Remember the grace of God

All of us fail to perfectly keep promises.  You may feel like you have tried your best to keep these promises or you may feel like you have failed miserably.  Most of us fall somewhere in-between.

God’s grace encourages parents to keep trying and to try again.  Confess promises you have broken and receive God’s liberating forgiveness… and try again.

And remember your church family

Christ the King is your church family here to support and help you fulfill the promises you made at your child’s baptism.

Peace be with you,

Pastor Steve
